Whether it be birthdays, weddings or just a hankering for a box of treats we are still here to help you celebrate. So to our loyal downtown customers, never fear, we will still be here. Now, due to Covid-19’s effects on our wedding season and the continuing high cost of doing business downtown, we are scaling back to our original Buttercup home on the North Coast and back to small batch baking. In that time, we have evolved from Jan’s specialty cakes produced in her farm kitchen on the north coast to our sweet little shop on Locust Street, and then to our grand endeavor on Pacific Avenue. It has been 10 years since we began to build Buttercup Cakes downtown, and decades longer since our founder, Jan Wilson, began baking cakes for celebrations throughout our community. Thank you for being our community, we hope to be back with you to help you celebrate soon. We know that so many people are struggling at this time, so any amount or just a share means the world-the link can be found in our bio. Jan is 81 years old, and we want her to have a comfortable place to go home to. We have created a gofundme to assist with the rebuilding of Jan and our owner Carren’s homes. For now, we will collect ourselves, rebuild, and look for ways to join in the strength of our community. We will not be taking any orders at this time, but will open up again as soon as possible. We know that many of you are also experiencing fear, loss, and uncertainty with regards to your homes and safety, and our hearts go out to you all. Yesterday, we received the devastating news that our homes and our kitchen burned to the ground. It is where our founder Jan Wilson began baking cakes four decades ago for weddings and celebrations all around the county, it’s where our business began 10 years ago and recently moved back to, and most of all, it is the place we call home. We will continue to keep you posted here and on instagram: love you Santa Cruz!Īt the core of Buttercup’s existence is our home on Swanton Road.
